Humpty Dumpty (Shadow) is a reinterpretation of the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme that highlights the cycles of violence embedded inside the story. It is a mashup of an existing Humpty Dumpty animation and the song "Shadow" by Ernst Reijseger and Harmen Fraanje from the Werner Herzog film Cave of Forgotten Dreams. I have turned the animation into a photo roman, a film told through a series of photographs rather than moving images. The photographs have been heavily processed to have a dark color treatment and they are seen projected through an old-fashioned CRT television. I think the stillness of the imagery, coupled with the haunting strings, invites the viewer to consider what is happening more deeply.
